Specialty Camps

Specialty Camps are the ultimate opportunity to experience the magic of summer camp at CHMK while focusing on a unique topic for the entire week! Through specifically designed programs, each individual specialty camp is led by experienced CHMK instructors who personalize the experience to each camper to maximize their experience and engage their learning.

Outdoor play, adventure, and hands-on experience in nature are at the heart of our camp. They’re how we connect with ourselves, each other, and the earth! With an inspired and inspiring staff, small numbers, and several options to choose from, we explore, play in, and learn from 74 beautiful acres of Camp Ho Mita Koda for a camp experience like never before.

Aquatics Camp (K-6)

All water, all the time! The CHMK Aquatics Camp allows campers the opportunity to transform into fish as the week is spent in and around water. The session is highlighted by canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, fishing, swimming (pool and lake), cardboard boat racing, night swims, water olympics, and so much more! Not only will campers have the opportunity to spend time in the water, but they will also be learning some great skills that will help them as they pursue water activities outside of camp, including different watercraft rescues, proper paddles strokes and technique, instructional swimming, basic water rescue skills, and more!

Nature Exploration (K-6)

Our Nature Specialty Camp strives to create a balance between nature exploration, science learning, and hands-on skills. Campers will have the opportunity to learn all about the local flora and fauna, seek out and identify crawling insects, birds and other critters, trees and plants, search for macro-invertebrates in our lake, participate in nature and night hikes, sleep under the stars, observe and interact with wildlife and animals, and play in the woods, streams, and other natural areas on our campus.

Campers also learn various outdoor skills that help them during overnights and beyond: how to put up a tent, choosing a campsite, fire building and safety, cooking outdoors, taking care of themselves (drinking enough water, avoiding sunburn, eating well, keeping dry in wet weather, etc.).

Arts & Crafts Camp (K-6)

Creativity and imaginations soar at CHMK! Our arts and crafts summer camp specialty program provides opportunities for campers to discover their artistic side and express their originality:

  • Experiment with a variety of arts and crafts materials
  • Design and create fun, three-dimensional projects
  • Pottery
  • Sketching
  • Painting
  • Beadwork

Our wooded setting offers unique materials to create nature-inspired crafts while increasing knowledge and appreciation for our natural environment.

Mountain Bike Camp (7-11)

The foundation of our Mountain Bike camp is fun, with a healthy dose of skill improvement. Our staff starts by evaluating campers’ riding strengths and identifying areas of improvement. Our instructors take the time to teach both basic and advanced riding skills, such as the proper attack position for every situation, braking, cornering, building speed through rollers, and more. Besides creating this learning environment, the Mountain Bike camp provides campers the opportunity to practice these techniques on the trail and at the local skills park. You’ll also learn trail etiquette, how ride with respect for nature and other people.

Extreme Adventure (7-11)

Adventure Camp is designed for our most adventurous campers and is jam-packed with non-stop thrills and adventure. Campers will have the opportunity to not only participate in the High and Low Ropes Challenge Course, but will gain the skills and experience to set up and take down the course, become belay certified, practice rescues, and so much more. When hanging out 60′ above the ground becomes second-nature, the remainder of the week will have campers tackling all of our camp activities, but to the EXTREME! Practice shooting moving targets in Archery, spend the night in the woods in a homemade shelter, and so much more!
