Our Camp Leadership
Rachael Messner – Camp Director
Rachael Messner is Ho Mita Koda’s Camp Director. After completing her years as a camper, she returned to camp as a counselor, lifeguard, and then Administrative Assistant. She graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2016 with her Bachelors Degree of Science in Technology. She is eager to continue her dedication to making the camp experience for future campers as cherished as her own.
Lisa Roberts – Assistant Camp Director
Lisa Roberts grew up visiting Camp Ho Mita Koda with her father, who is a camp physician and current board member. In 2015, she joined the staff as a member of the ropes team, became the ropes and challenge course director the following year, and now serves as the assistant director in addition to being a member of the advisory counsel. While she does not have diabetes, she has become an advocate for the diabetes community. Outside of camp, she is in her final years of college at John Carroll University and currently serves in the Army National Guard.
Our Other Staff Members
Our camp counselors serve as role models in a variety of ways. Many of our staff members are former campers and Counselors in Training (CIT) who have worked their way up in our ranks. Our CIT program allows our 16 and 17 year old former campers to train along side our senior staff to become counselors. All of our counselors are trained in accordance with American Camp Association (ACA) standards as well as strict medical training to ensure the safety of all campers, staff, and others.
Our counselors act as activity leaders, and have been trained in the proper skills for each activity, including:
- Waterfront (lake and pool)
- Ropes course (low, high, and rock wall)
- Arts and crafts
- and many more!
Our support staff members include kitchen, maintenance, and facilities members. Many of these people are CHMK community members who donate their time to help continuously improve camp and keep it running during the camp year as well as ensure the upkeep during the off months.
Our Camp staff includes a highly-trained medical team with licensed physicians and nurses, most of whom are from northeast Ohio’s top-ranked hospitals and other leading organizations. Registered dietitians and certified diabetes educators oversee menus and camper nutrition. Medical staff members are present at every camp activity and on duty 24 hours a day in our own dispensary on property.
All of our staff are excited to work with your camper this summer!
