New year, same me. As I get older I realize that with each coming year I am still the same “self” I was last year. Instead of telling you my resolutions (I didn’t even make one) I’m going to tell you what I’m looking forward to this year… medicare advances, summer camp fun and maybe a few shows from my favorite local bands!

Medicare patients now have some great options for their diabetes care. Omnipod insulin pumps are now available with Medicare and also the flash glucose monitoring system Freestyle Libre. This is exciting to know Medicare is making changes for people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). More people are getting T1D, and its something we are going to live with for the rest of our lives, until a cure. So more elderly people are going to need supplies from Medicare. It gives me great hope that when I turn 65, Medicare may cover some medical equipment for myself and others living with T1D.

This summer Camp Ho Mita Koda will be having six overnight sessions and one day camp session. This schedule gets me excited and reminds me of the summers that I attended as a camper. When I was diagnosed in November at 11 years old, I remember thinking that I was the only person with T1D. That summer my parents dropped me off for 11 days that changed my life! I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeves to make your campers experience just as treasured as mine. I will be bringing back some old traditions from when I was a camper, and of course everyone’s’ favorite activities such as capture the flag, pirates, and much more!

This year looks so bright! I am so excited and humble to be a part of your campers summer memories. We are going to make this year unforgettable!
