Camp Secretary

Camp Ho Mita Koda is a residential camp for children ages 6-15 who have Type 1 diabetes. It is located on 75 wooded acres in Newbury, Ohio (Geauga County), just 25 miles east of Cleveland. Campers attend 5 age-grouped sessions. Staff are required to attend one week of paid orientation and training.

The camp secretary will assist with Camp Director with the management of the Camp Office. The camp secretary is required to live on site and be available for the entire length of camp, June 7- August 2, 2008.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduate and at least 18 years of age
  • Camp Secretary is required to live on site and be available for the entire length of camp
  • Experience in office procedures (answering phones, filing, photocopying, etc.)
  • Ability to handle money and do minor bookkeeping
  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
  • Display a responsible, courteous, and friendly manner at all times and be willing to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to new situations and group living.
  • Must have a personal vehicle for purchasing trips, trips to post office and trips to the DAGC, etc.

Responsible to: Camp Director.

Responsibilities & Position Requirements:

  • Manage camper check-in and check-out procedures, including collecting and organizing camper paperwork., distributing camper t-shirts, greeting families, and preparing check-out packets.
  • Assist Camp Director with daily camp office business. This will include answering the camp telephone, taking and delivering phone messages, filing, photocopying, and oversight of camp visitor policies.
  • Sort the camp mail daily and deliver to camper cabins. Take out outgoing mail.
  • Serve as the camp store clerk during designated hours. Assist with organization of items, manage inventory, and write receipts for purchases. Pack and inventory camp store and camp office at the end of the season.
  • Answer phones and take accurate messages. Deliver messages efficiently.
  • Assist Camp Director with daily cabin inspections.
  • Coordinate all work coming into the office (photocopying, equipment requests, purchases to be made).
  • Bring large photocopy projects (i.e. camp newspaper) to the Diabetes Association for photocopying.
  • Take care of lost and found items in a timely manner.
  • Assist Camp Director with dissemination and collection of camper surveys at the end of each camp session.
  • Assist Camp Director with special events, including but not limited to Mini Camp and Open House.
  • Participate in camp activities as directed by the Camp Director.
  • Other duties as assigned

Pay and Benefits:

  • $180.00 per week.
  • Staff receives one paid week of orientation and training prior to start of first residence camp session.
  • Positions are temporary, and do not include health insurance.
  • Staff receives free meals and snacks (staff have same menu as campers) during residence camp sessions.
  • Staff receives a four-day paid break from July 2-July 5.
  • Camp Secretary will receive a minimum of one 24-hour period off between residential camp sessions and one 24-hour period off during 12-day sessions.
