Kitchen Assistant

Camp Ho Mita Koda is a residential camp for children ages 6-15 who have Type 1 diabetes. It is located on 75 wooded acres in Newbury, Ohio (Geauga County), just 25 miles east of Cleveland. Campers attend 5 age-grouped sessions. Staff are required to attend one week of paid orientation and training.

The kitchen assistant will assist in the camp kitchen by putting away food orders, serving food, washing dishes and pots/pans. Schedule will be 3-4 shifts (3 1/2 hours) per week. This position is not residential.

Required Qualifications:

• At least 16 years of age
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Desire and ability to work with children with diabetes.
• Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
• Display a responsible, courteous and friendly manner at all times and be willing to work as part of a team.
• Ability to adapt to new situations and group living.
• Having diabetes is not a required prerequisite for working at Camp Ho Mita Koda. Staff training and orientation will be held prior to camp and will include diabetes education.

Responsible to: Head Cook. Will interface with Camp Kitchen Manager and Camp Dietician.

Responsibilities & Position Requirements:

• Put away food orders
• Serve meals
• Wash dishes, pots and pans
• Sweep dining room floor after meals
• May assist in camp garden as needed
• Must attend and participate in kitchen staff orientation
• Ability to work 3-4 shifts (3 1/2 hours) per week
• Other duties as assigned.

Pay and Benefits:

• $8.00 per hour.
• Positions are temporary, and do not include health insurance.
