Type 1 Residence Camp

Session 5, Week 1: July 20-24, 2008

The first week of session five is almost over, do you know what that means? Camp for the entire summer is coming to an end! Of course, session five has one week remaining and it will be jam packed with fun activities. Just like the rest of the camp sessions, session five’s first week was great.

During the day, campers had their choice of hobbies: such as, arts and crafts, improv in the drama room, archery, and let’s not forget the chance to become a ninja! Next week each camper will get to sign up for hobbies again, and if they choose to, they can keep the hobby they already had or try something brand new! There will be new activities to choose from, so hopefully it will be an exciting day come Monday.

Evening activities are always really fun. Tuesday night was the Gladiator Games and Cabin Chasers. The boys participated in the Gladiator Games, which consisted of extreme pillow fights and sumo wrestling. The games had the boy campers competing against their counselors, and the counselors won. The girls’ Cabin Chasers was more of a relay where each girl cabin was given a list of things to do as a team. For example, a girl from each cabin had to name ten U.S. presidents, two girls had to dress up as a male singer and a female singer and serenade their judge, and as a finale, each cabin performed a cabin song. It was a pretty close race, but Katie’s Cabin won their Cabin Chasers.

Not surprisingly, the week was not devoid of rain, so Wednesday’s Capture the Flag had to be replaced with Pillow Auctions. Again, showing impressive team work and skill, Katie’s Cabin won another evening activity. Thursday night is the campers vs. the counselors basketball game. The results of that will be posted next week; no doubt it will be an interesting match. The weekend should be pretty exciting as well, since Friday there is an all camp dodge ball game and Saturday will be filled with group activities.

So, in summary, it was a really nice week, and we hope that the last week of session five is just as wonderful. So, don’t miss out on next week’s summary! There are many more events planned for the campers before we all say final goodbyes.
