After a short break for the 4th of July, everyone at camp was eager to come back for our first 12 day session of the summer. Since session four campers range in age from 13-15, our activity schedule was a little different than what we usually plan for our younger campers. This week’s activities geared more towards events that teenagers would enjoy.
Activities such as: boating, ropes, horseback riding, and cooking and gardening are among the norm in most of the sessions, but this week there were a few different options from which campers could choose. Campers were offered sign language classes, step dance lessons, and a new water activity, pirates, not to mention the bonus of a longer free swim time. Evening endeavors over the week included a dance party on Monday; sing down on Tuesday, which was the rainy day activity that took the place of the counselor hunt, which transpired Wednesday evening. The title, counselor hunt, pretty much explains the game; unfortunately, none of the counselors did ever get caught.
As with almost every other session, the campers who chose cooking and gardening as their afternoon activity got to partake in an Iron Chef competition that was held Thursday. The contenders this week were Jonathan Zieger, Seth Simon, both from the Rainbow Connection cabin, Sydney Krieger of Katie’s Cabin, and our victor, Elizabeth Sheerer of the Best Friends cabin.
Besides an impromptu mud fight on Wednesday, the aforementioned were the highlights of week one of session four. As for the remainder of the week, with weather permitting, there will be a camp wide Color War. Friday night will be the opening ceremony followed by the actual event on Saturday. So, stay tuned for next week, when you’ll find out the Color War champions, plus details of the last week of session four!
