Type 1 Residence Camp

Session 2: June 22-26, 2008

Another camp session is over and although bad weather was looming, the fun never stopped. And even though some of our outdoor activities, such as the beloved free swim, had to be put off for another day, the campers still had fun indoors, with games like: 7up, sing down, which is a group game that tests campers knowledge of lyrics in songs, table tennis, and a pillowcase auction. If you aren’t familiar with some of the of the activities listed, ask your camper; odds are they will be more than happy to tell you what they learned during their activities and hobbies here at camp!

If they had the choice, most of the campers would have stayed outside in the rain, but luckily it never came to that. The rain came and went all week, but fortunately, the sun was shining Tuesday and Thursday! In the nice weather the campers quickly got back outside and climbed the wall, went swimming, played kickball, participated in the many boating activities and some even went hiking, which is a new activity that was offered this session. The camp as a whole got to enjoy the pillowcase auction on Monday night, won by Michael’s Cabin and Papa’s Place, the cookout on Tuesday, and a dance Wednesday night. Some other group activities were a hunt the counselors, where Betty John’s cabin and Michael’s cabin triumphed, and the Iron Chef challenge, won by Kelsea Ebie. And who can forget the great game of dodge ball, the campers really held their own, but in the campers versus the counselors match, the counselors dominated.

At camp, of course campers want to be outside with their newfound friends; playing sports or partaking in an outdoor activity, such as Gladiators, but sometimes it is not always feasible. Weather in Ohio is anything but predictable, so there always has to be a plan B. We try to make every single thing we do at camp enjoyable for our campers, and from the laughter heard all over, session 2 was a great success. We had a great time and hope all of our campers did as well. It was a wonderful week; come back and see us again next year! But until then, be safe and enjoy your summer!
